This successful applicant will implement and report on a suite of federal grant-funded projects and long-term fisheries independent monitoring programs focused on recreationally-important, commercially-important, and conservation priority crustaceans (including blue crab, shrimp, and crayfish). The employee will create improved efficiency of collecting and analyzing data from multiple concurrent research projects. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct fieldwork under challenging conditions and have experience implementing, analyzing, and disseminating results from scientific research projects. The employee will be expected to have significant experience in the development of new project ideas and their subsequent implementation, and is expected to have the proficiency to disseminate research results using a variety of communication media (e.g. presentations and peer-reviewed publications).
Minimum / Additional Requirements:
A Master's degree in biology, chemistry or related technical area field; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and two (2) years of experience relevant to the job.
A broad knowledge of the biology, ecology, and fisheries practices relating to recreationally-, commercially-, and conservation-priority crustaceans. Strong communication and organizational skills. An ability to effectively trailer and operate small research vessels in support of field sampling, familiarity with standard crustacean sampling techniques, and proficient in the effective dissemination of research findings. Skilled in scientific writing and the presentation of section-related research.
