Occurrence and relative abundance of Psorospermiun haeckeli in Lithuanian crayfish
Published Online:
Abstract
The crayfish Astacus astacus, Astacus leptodactylus and Orconectes limosus were sampled from 25 different Lithuanian crayfish localities. A. astacus was sampled from 21 localities, A. leptodactylus from 2 and O. limosus from 2. Psorospermium haeckeli was detected in 9 (43%) noble crayfish A. astacus populations from different areas of the entire crayfish area. The rate of infection varied from 27 to 100 percent between populations. Psorospermium haeckeli was also found in A. leptodactylus, but was not in O. limosus. Relative abundance in the parasite varied from 3 to 105 in the same magnification view sample. No obvious correlation between total length of crayfish, infection rate and parasite abundance was found.
