An historical analysis was done of the results of scientific research performed in Mexico from 1969 to 1999 with several species of crayfish of the genus Cambarellus, Procambarus and Orconectes, and presented at the National Congress of Physiological Sciences organized by the Mexican Society of Physiological Sciences. The distribution through time of the number of presented works and their topics were reviewed, as well as the number of authors and involved institutions. It is necessary to stand out the importance of the crayfish as a tool on the process of scientific production in the fields of behaviour and physiology.
