Crayfish plague, Aphanomyces astaci, observed in the European crayfish, Astacus astacus, in Pihlajavesi waterway in Finland: A case study on the spread of the plague fungus
Published Online:
Abstract
The crayfish plague, Aphanomyces astaci, was observed in 1973 in the Pihlajavesi waterway, Central Finland. By 1977 the fungus had spread about 20 km up in the waterway, devastating the productive and economically significant crayfish stocks. The spread of the fungus and the speed at which it was spreading have been discussed.
