Abstract
Crayfish, infected with Thelohania contejeani Henneguy amount to 0.7-3.7% of the catches in separate lakes of the Lithuanian SSR. Extensiveness of the infection is in inverse ratio to intensity of catching. The studies on the ways of spread of the disease show that ovum cells of infected females do not mature in the gonads, pairing and egg laying do not take place. It means that the disease is not spread sexually. Healthy animals were infected with homogenate prepared from the body of diseased animals by making infusion to the stomach and by giving an injection to the muscles of the abdomen . On the ground of that a suggestion is made that in case of cannibalism, spread of the disease is quite possible under natural conditions.
