Abstract

The hemolymph picture of the crayfish Procambarus acutus acutus during the mid-intermoult stage was examined. The specific gravity of the hemolymph and the concentration of calcium in the hemolymph were (mean ± S.E.) 1.01 ± 0.01 and 41.76 ± 1.41 mg Ca/100 ml respectively. There was an indirect relationship between body size and hemolymph calcium concentration at the mid-intermoult stage (0.05 > P > 0.02). However, a direct (positive) relation was found between hemolymph calcium and medium calcium concentrations (0.05 > P > 0.02). The relationships between the hemolymph parameters appear to be size-dependent.
