Frequency of visible symptoms of the crayfish plague fungus (Aphamomyces astaci) on the American crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) in natural populations in Finland

Abstract
The resistance of Pacifastacus leniusculus towards the crayfish plague fungus Aphanomyces astaci can be reduced by injecting 'non-self' particles into the crayfish. Latent 'chronic' infections can then easily be converted to lethal 'acute' infections resulting in death of the animal. The resistance of P. leniuscu1us towards Aphanomyces astaci zoospores seems to have decreased.
