Abstract
This article is a brief introduction to the following articles describing crayfish studies in Lake Steinsfjorden, one of the main localities of Astacus astacus in Scandinavia. The article gives a morphometric and physiochemical description of the lake, and provides information on crayfish exploitation, crayfish fishery regulations and general studies on crayfish biology performed in the lake.
