Inventaire complet d'une population d'Astacus astacus par vidange d'un etang d'elevage naturel
Published Online: 6/1/2020
Abstract
A crayfish Astacus astacus population has been studied in a natural rearing pond ( 0.3 hectare) at the end of a five years production period ( 1981-1986). Complete drainage of the pond allowed a nearly-complete control of the population. The previously estimated density by marking and recapture method is compared with the observed density. Length distribution and age distribution are presented for males and females. At the end of the five years production period, total biomass and mean natural production reach respectively 511 kg per hectare and 65 kg per hectare and per year. Such dense native crayfish populations are extremely rare in Belgium. Biotope particularities and population management are briefly discussed.
