Abstract
Crayfish plague (Aphanomyces astaci Schikora) has devastated the crayfish populations in Sweden so that a former substantial export is replaced by an import o f 1,000 tons a year (1972). P. leniusculus is used to restore crayfish water bodies. After a few years introduction of adult crayfish from the US, since 1970 only juveniles are distributed, being produced in Sweden. Test fishing has shown that colonizing a suitable water body with Pacifastacus is possible. Survival is good. The growth so far has been rapid and two-summer crayfish average 92 mm (M) and 87 mm (F) body length.
