Growth of the Noble Crayfish, Astacus astacus, in a Pond-stocking Experiment
Published Online: 6/1/2020
Abstract
The results from a stocking experiment with the noble crayfish, Astacus astacus in limestone quarry ponds are reported. When stocked in low densities in ponds with abundant food supply and no competition from fish, the growth is not very inferior to that reported for Pacifastacus leniusculus. Astacus astacus can reach at least 6.9 cm T.L. in two summers, i.e. as l+, and at least 9 cm in three summers, i.e. as 2+.
