Abstract

Sodium, potassium, calcium, and protein concentrations were determined in freshwater crayfish (Astacus astacus L.) juveniles. The eggs and juveniles developed under natural conditions. After the first postembryonic molt the content of calcium in the body of crayfish juveniles increased greatly, approached 16.9% of dry weight. The concentration of sodium and potassium during the postembryonic development (stage I-VI , according to Cukerzis, 1970) fluctuated only slightly. The total nitrogen concentration is lowest after the first postembryonic molt (stage II), increasing steadily up to the VI stage. Protease activity was determined in crayfish juveniles by the Casein Digestio method at pH 6.0 at 37C. The maximum protease activity was reached in the digestive system of crayfish after the third post embryonic molt. It is connected with the active feeding of juveniles in August and the first weeks of September.
