Abstract

To facilitate the writing of reports and to avoid continuous repetition of lengthy and complicated latin, some idioms or symbols are hereby proposed. The idiom represents the proper latin name of any particular species. The idiom was found by taking two letters from the word representing the genus, e.g., “Pf” for Pacifastacus or “Ap” for Austropotamobius together with the first letter from the word or words representing the species, e.g. “p” for pallipes as in Austropotamobius pallipes = “App” or “t.t” in Austropotamobius torrentium torrentium = “Apt.t” (separate names for species with a point). From the above you will see that the idioms “Pcc”! and “Asa” are adequate for Procambarus clarkii and Astacus astacus.
