Crayfish as model organisms
Published Online:
Abstract
Freshwater crayfish have served as model organisms for over 100 years in scientific research, from areas such as neurobiology and vision research to conservation biology and evolution. In this article I review the amazing diversity of freshwater crayfish that lends itself to study in such diverse fields. I then summarize the use of crayfish as model organisms in my own studies in molecular evolution, vision research, systematics, population genetics, and conservation biology.
