Bioaccumulation and acute toxicity of zinc in marron, Cherax tenuimanus (Smith) [Decapoda: Parastacidae]

Abstract
The impact of acute zinc exposure in juvenile marron (Cherax tenuimanus) was examined through mortality patterns and zinc accumulation in the gills and hepatopancreas. A 96 h static renewal toxicity test was conducted which exposed 6 month old (0+) juvenile marron from Byford, Western Australia, to 10, 32, 100, 320, 1000 and 3200 mg Zn2+ L-1. The 96 h LC50 was 139 (72.1-270.5 mg 95% confidence limits) mg Zn2+ L-1. Zinc accumulation showed a positive dose response relationship in the gills and hepatopancreas.
