Crayfish plague in Britain, the first twelve years

Abstract
Since 1981 there has been a series of outbreaks of crayfish plague in England and Wales which has eliminated the main populations of the white clawed crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes (Lereboullet) from most of the country south of the Pennines. The history of these outbreaks is presented and discussed.
